The Oconocon & Free Comic Book Day 2008
I am northward bound.
Wisconsin.
Oconomowoc, to be precise.
On Saturday, May 3rd, I’ll be at Kowabunga Comics (noon until question mark), hanging out and signing some books for Free Comic Book Day.
Then, come Sunday, I’ll have a table at the inaugural Oconocon (I do love that name), held at the Olympia Resort and Conference Center from 10am-4pm, selling books, doing sketches, and all of the usual convention-type stuff.
So, if you’re in the Oconomowoc area (smack-dab in between Madison and Milwaukee), swing by, have fun, and keep me company.
More soon,
-chris.

The Redhead

A quick watercolor piece.
And because I truly LIKED how this turned out (which happens all too infrequently), I wanted to share.

The Sand-Eater assault on Newbegin continues! With the slaves escaping, the Disciples are all that stand between the Sandies and chaos as they rampage through the marketplace. COMIC BOOK TATTOO - The Beekeeper
COMIC BOOK TATTOO, an illustrated anthology based on the songs of Tori Amos, will be released this summer by Image Comics.
The book clocks-in at nearly 500 pages and boasts around 90 artists and writers. I am (excitedly and proudly and nervously) one of them.
Writer Neil Kleid and I take on THE BEEKEEPER, one of my favorite songs in the Amos stable and, actually, when asked which songs we’d possibly like to adapt, my first choice (so, THAT was pretty slick).
To see the Comic Book Resources article, not to mention a few samples of art, more of the creators involved, and an interview with editor and chief mastermind, Rantz Hoseley (who does a substantially better job at encapsulating the project than I ever could), click here.
More details to come…

A New(ish) Drawing
Okay...maybe not exactly "new" in the strict sense of the word, but new enough for my purposes, however vague and ephemeral they might be.
Going through some work the other day I stumbled upon this, a (kind of quick) concept bit for a nagging idea that ping-pongs around the base of my brain every now and then. This was, I think, done back in November or so, but it still works well enough (for what it is) that I thought it should see the light of day.

Tori Amos: COMIC BOOK TATTOO
This summer Image Comics releases COMIC BOOK TATTOO, an anthology based on the songs of Tori Amos, as edited and masterminded by Rantz Hoseley.
We've been asked to keep the art and title of the song under our hats for just a bit longer, but I can now, officially, say that I’m a part of this project and that Neil Kleid (BROWNSVILLE, STARSTRUCK) has written the story on which I’m working.
Needless to say, I’m excited as all hell to be even a small part of this. Not just because it’s Tori Amos, but because of the impressive lineup of creators assembled (when this comes out, and as more details become available, you’ll see what I mean).
More soon,
-chris.

Next Year (?), WONDERCON.
Despite some attempts to make it work, I’m not going to be able to make it out to San Francisco for WonderCon this year. Both Antony Johnston and Ben Templesmith are going to be there (to promote their upcoming DEAD SPACE book from Image), and because of that there had been talk of trying to get us all together for a three-way WASTELAND signing. Alas, it wasn't to be. At least not this time.
If you’re going to be out that way, though, stop by the Oni booth and give them some (friendly) guff for me. And should you happen to pick up some books while you’re there, well, that’d be swell, too.
Watch this space -- In a few days there will be an anthology (or two) that I'll (finally) be able to talk about.

Sketch!

Simply a quick, clearing-the-cobwebs doodle I whipped up this evening after I finished the day's work on WASTELAND. I kind of liked how it turned out, so I thought I'd toss it up here. Click image to see full-size.

*For the Moment
So, while my actual, prettier site is being tinkered with (to make my access TO it and control OF it less of a technical chore) this blog is going to take its place. Hopefully, I'll be back to the new (old) site soon.
Until then, watch this space!
